Poor running can be attrubuted to many things but MAF are also a common weakness with the mk4s. turbo flatspot (prob dodgy MAF), maybe dodgy coilpacks too. How far can i go on std internals? The common concensus is about 300bhp before engine components start failing. Headlight / side light bulbs are a mare to change. Northampton, ENGLAND!

Why does my Mk4 Golf keep stalling?

My car keeps stalling / misfiring. This could be caused by a faulty MAF sensor (again), temperature sender, relay 109 (diesels only), dirty throttle body, faulty coilpacks (petrol) or dirty contacts on the ignition amplifier. Relay 109 – the sure-fire sign is when you try to start the car, the glowplug lamp stays out.

What to do if your Mk4 Golf loses its key?

Assuming that the batteries are ok, it’s likely that the key has lost it’s code. If you have 2 keys, put one in the ignition and turn on (I’d lower the windows, just in case!), manually lock the drivers door with the other key. Press either/both buttons on the remote (alarm should chirp). Manually unlock the door and turn the ignition off.

What kind of engine does a Golf TDI have?

I bought a MK4 Golf TDI last year, the 150 BHP version. Everything looked good on paper and it test drove well. I know that they suffer with camshaft issues but this one had a new camshaft installed fairly recently with some work done to the injectors also. It had all the extras I wanted, climate control etc.

There’s also a lot of wear on the valve lobes. One of them to the extent where you can see metal fraying off the edge of the lobe! So the plan is to change the camshaft, cam followers, injector seals, timing belt with tensioners and the water pump while I’m at it.

Why is my VW Golf having engine issues?

The cam had developed flat spots on the injector lobes which was giving the injectors a rough time. Eventually the injector seals started to give up. Clearly some have got so bad that it’s now affecting the fuelling.
