Workhorse was the successor to the old Chevrolet P-30, P-32 truck/van chassis. The Workhorse was/is a sturdy motorhome chassis and was a favorite for many manufacturers for years. It has been discontinued. The 8.1 Chevrolet big block V8 is a sturdy engine as is the Allison tranny.

Is the GM 454 Vortec and 8.1 workhorse engines?
Nurse Barbara, the 454 and the 8.1 are built on the same block. I am not sure but I beleive the 454 is a throttle body injection and the 8.1 is a multi port injection. And yes either one will do well on a coach up to 34 or 35 feet. more then that you not preform too well. Thank you for that reply. You are the only one who knew that much.

The oil pump is on the front of the block, and the oil filter is near the rear of the engine. All Gen III engines are designed to be used with GM’s AC Delco motor oil. The LS1 5.7L uses 5W30.
