Why is my a / C compressor not working on my Chevy Tahoe?

Why is my a / C compressor not working on my Chevy Tahoe?

I ran two wires to the battery to test the compressor clutch and it does engage the clutch when 12v is applied, yet it still doesn’t seem to be cooling. What else should I try? I’m fairly new to troubleshooting a/c systems.

What causes an AC compressor to not engage?

If the clutch doesn’t engage, the problem could be a blown fuse, an open in the wire to the clutch coil, a bad clutch coil, a poor ground, or a low pressure lockout. AC compressor clutches receive power in a number of ways. They can activate through a relay that’s energized directly by a proper condition of the low and high pressure switches.

Why is my 2003 air conditioner not working?

Owners of 2003’s may comment about poor A/C performance after they have pressed the A/C button and see what appears to be the snowflake illuminated on the display. What has actually happened, though, is that they have disabled the operation of the A/C compressor and the snowflake symbol, upon closer inspection, has a slash through it.

What should I do if my Silverado compressor does not engage?

Hold the can of refrigerant upright and slowly open the valve on the charging hose. The pressure of your can will force the gas into your system. While the compressor may engage immediately, allow the can to empty before removing the charging hose.

What to do if your air conditioner clutch does not engage?

If the clutch doesn’t engage, the air conditioning compressor can’t pump refrigerant. So start your diagnosis by determining if the compressor clutch works. Turn the air conditioning controls to MAX AC and start the engine. Then look at the front of the compressor clutch.

Why does my GMC P / you compressor not turn on?

No. Theres a schrader valve to prevent freon from escaping when you replace the switch. Just make sure you dont overtighten it. This is on a 2004 gmc p/u I have checked the fuse and relay all good. I have jumped high pressure switch .I have no power going to the high pressure switch wiring is good.

What to do if your a / C compressor won’t turn on?

Have someone watching the A/C compressor while you start the truck and turn the A/C on. If the compressor cycles on, turn it off. You now just narrowed it down to either low refrigerant or a bad pressure switch. Keep it Professional Grade. Use Genuine GM Parts Cut your fingernails. That’s not me. And spell your name right.

Why does my AC stop working when I jump the relay?

A few hours later my dumb self decided to try to add a little oil thru the low side and it wouldn’t take much (my guess is because it was under pressure). After that ac stopped working again since neither the compressor nor fan come on, only when i take the relay out and start jumping with a wire.

Where is the low pressure cut out switch on a Chevy Tahoe?

Low pressure cut-out switch is on the top of compressor on line manifold mating block just in front of the service port. The high pressure cut-out switch is on the back of compressor.

How is the compressor clutch relay turned on and off?

In some vehicles the compressor clutch relay is turned on and off by the low pressure switch and the evaporator temperature sensor. In a computer controlled system, the compressor clutch relay is grounded by the computer. If the fuse is good, disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch coil.
